A new gin soda crafted from upcycled ingredients has arrived at Aeon stores. Re:GIN (Rejin) Mottainai Yuzu Gin Soda went on sale from May 27, 2026, available in limited quantities at approximately 360 Aeon, Aeon Style, and Aeon Liquor stores across the Kanto, Hokuriku-Shinetsu, Tokai, Kinki, and Chugoku-Shikoku regions.
A Gin Soda Born from Upcycled Materials
Re:GIN Mottainai Yuzu Gin Soda was developed through a collaboration between Dole Japan and Ethical Spirits. The product uses "Mottainai Yuzu" — yuzu peel from Kochi Prefecture that would normally be discarded after juicing — as its key botanical. This material is part of Dole Japan's "Mottainai Fruits Action" initiative.
The yuzu peel is extracted at low temperatures without the use of any solvents or water, drawing out the fresh and multidimensional aroma of the yuzu. The base spirit is the ethical gin "LAST EN -縁-" by Ethical Spirits, which contributes a gentle Japanese-inspired finish.
The result is a light and easy-drinking canned gin soda at 5% ABV, with a refreshing yuzu aroma on the nose followed by a calm, lingering finish.
Sustainability Through Flavor-First Design
What sets Re:GIN apart is that the decision to use upcycled ingredients was driven by flavor, not environmental branding. The development team prioritized taste and aroma when selecting ingredients, and it was this process that naturally led them to the discarded yuzu peel as an ideal botanical.
