Season 2 of the MJ Cup Dragon God Championship, the only online title match of the Saikouisen Japan Professional Mahjong Association (Saikouisen), is set to begin in June 2026. All rounds — from the preliminary stages to the grand final — are conducted within SEGA NET Mahjong MJ.
Saikouisen Professionals Compete from Qualifiers to Finals in SEGA NET Mahjong MJ
The MJ Cup Dragon God Championship is Saikouisen's first-ever online title match. It is ranked as the fourth-highest title within the association, following the Saikouisen, Hakuuii, and the Iida Masato Cup Saikouisen Classic, with Saikouisen-affiliated professionals competing for the championship.
Season 2 begins with a top-player selection period spanning June through August 2026, held within SEGA NET Mahjong MJ. The selection format has been revamped from Season 1: each of the three months is evaluated independently based on 100 consecutive games played that month. Professionals will compete fiercely to secure the highest possible seeding before the main competition begins.
Eligible game modes include 4-player ranked matches, 4-player tournaments, and 4-player events (east-only and east-south formats are both accepted). With many Saikouisen professionals expected to be active throughout the selection period, regular players have a greater chance of being matched against professionals they might not otherwise encounter.
Qualifier rounds begin in September, followed by the grand final in November — all conducted inside SEGA NET Mahjong MJ. Spectating is available directly within the game, letting fans watch their favourite Saikouisen professionals in action. From the 1st STAGE onward, all matches are also streamed free of charge on the Saikouisen YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@saikouisen1976).
All rounds from the qualifiers onward use a 4-player SEGA NET Mahjong MJ ruleset with hanchan (full-game) format — including sudden-elimination rules — making even the final a thrilling watch.
