The design is based on the form of the Soul Gem rings seen in the story. The dial uses the traditional craft "raden" (螺鈿) to express the sparkle of the Soul Gem. The natural shimmer gives the Soul Gem a mysterious glow, and wearers can enjoy the world of the series while wearing it. Traditional Craft "Raden" Used for the Dial
Raden (螺鈿) is a traditional Japanese technique in which the iridescent part of shells such as abalone is shaved extremely thin and used to decorate a lacquer surface. In Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, it has long been known as "Aogai-nuri" (青貝塗) because the black lacquer shows through and shines blue, and it has been handed down as a representative technique of Takaoka lacquerware.
Because raden is a natural material, each piece shows its own look created by the shell's natural iridescence.
For these watches, craftsmen finish each dial carefully by hand, one by one, using this raden craft.
About Puella Magi Madoka Magica
The TV anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica, which aired in 2011, drew wide attention for a story that overturned the image of conventional magical girl works and for its original worldview.
The director was Akiyuki Shinbo (新房昭之), known for his original visual expression, including the Monogatari series. The screenplay was written by Gen Urobuchi (虚淵玄), who is highly regarded for his game scenarios at Nitroplus and for the original novel of Fate/Zero. The original character design was by Ume Aoki (蒼樹うめ) of Hidamari Sketch, and the animation was produced by Shaft.
In contrast to the adorable magical girls, the story depicts girls who face a harsh fate in exchange for their wishes. Cute characters, unpredictable and thrilling developments, the otherworldly spaces by Gekidan Inu Curry (劇団イヌカレー) and the music by Yuki Kajiura (梶浦由記) combined into a distinctive worldview that shocked many viewers.
Its popularity kept growing after the broadcast. In 2012, two theatrical films re-editing all 12 episodes of the TV series, "Beginnings" (始まりの物語) and "Eternal" (永遠の物語), were released. In 2013, the all-new film "Rebellion" (叛逆の物語), which depicts the story that follows, was released in theaters.
The world expanded further into manga and novel adaptations, games, side stories and spin-offs, and the single anime grew into a series with a wide range of stories.
