About Godzilla
The first film in the series, released in 1954, drew an audience of 9.61 million and became a major hit. Since then, more than 30 films have been produced in Japan alone, and cumulative attendance for the series has passed 100 million. Known to viewers of all ages, Godzilla has been portrayed as a being beyond human understanding, at times a barrier humans must overcome and at times an ally of humanity. Each film reflects the mood of its era, and Godzilla has captivated people across generations.
The character's popularity has also crossed the ocean, with live-action Hollywood films produced. Godzilla continues to hold its place as the King of the Monsters.
