A charming new stationery series called the "Ciao Letter Set" arrived at stores across Japan on March 9, 2026. Offered by Hallmark Japan, the set puts a playful twist on the classic letter-writing experience: fold the included stationery in a specific way, slip it into the windowed envelope, and a cute animal face pops up through the opening to greet the recipient.
The name "Ciao" is borrowed from the Italian word for "hi" or "hello," evoking the warm, friendly feeling of an animal popping up to say hello — as if waving at you through the window.

A Peek-a-Boo Letter Experience
The envelope's window panel is made from a plastic film material, which means the letters can be sent through the mail without issue. The stationery inside is illustrated with a variety of animal breeds and patterns depending on the design, adding extra visual interest even before the envelope is opened.
While the concept is undeniably playful, the color palette is kept to muted, sophisticated tones to make the set usable for adults. The illustrations themselves are rendered in a realistic style with a loose, hand-drawn line quality that keeps things casual rather than overly polished.
