KEYAKI Light Parade by FeStA LuCe, the winter illumination event that brightens Wakayama City, will attempt to set a Guinness World Records title in the category "Most LED light units in a street illumination." Now in its 4th year, the event will light about 500 street trees with 1.6 million LEDs along a route of approximately 3.5 km, running from JR Wakayama Station past Wakayama Castle to Nankai Wakayamashi Station (南海和歌山市駅) and the Wakayama Prefectural Office.
On November 21, 2026 (Sat.), the opening day, the lighting will be assessed for the record attempt. If the record is certified, an official Guinness World Records certificate presentation ceremony will be held. The same day, part of Keyaki Odori Avenue (けやき大通り) is scheduled to become a pedestrian zone, and the "WAKAYAMA LIGHTS 2026" drone show at Wakayama Castle, with 1,000 drones on the largest scale in Wakayama Prefecture, is also scheduled.
Scaling Up for the Guinness World Records Attempt
Since 2024, KEYAKI Light Parade by FeStA LuCe has been Japan's No. 1 illumination street* in terms of the number of LED bulbs continuously installed along a road. This year the route is extended by about 500 m, from in front of Wakayama City Hall to in front of the Wakayama Prefectural Office on the west side of Wakayama Castle. That is up from 435 street trees and 1.3 million LEDs last time, and the record attempt is made on this larger scale.
* Based on surveys by the Wakayama Keyaki Odori Illumination Executive Committee (November 2024 and October 2025).
The organizers say that certification would send the scale of the lights decorating Wakayama out to the world, and that the challenge and its achievement aim to deepen local pride, attachment, and a sense of unity.
This year's event runs for 100 days, from November 21 (Sat.) through February 28, 2027 (Sun.). Hours were originally planned for 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, the same as last time, but have been extended by one hour to midnight.
