Mercian Co., Ltd. (President: Masamitsu Otsuka) is renewing the design of "Mercian Wines Sunnyside Organic Sparkling Can" and "Mercian Wines Sunnyside Organic Sparkling Rosé Can" starting from late February 2026 under the "Mercian Wines" brand—a wine brand created in collaboration between world-class winemakers and Mercian for Japanese customers. Additionally, due to popular demand, they will launch "Mercian Wines Sunnyside Organic Sparkling Red Can" as the third product in the series on March 31, 2026 (Tuesday).
*Note 1: "Mercian Wines Sunnyside Organic Sparkling Can" design renewal begins in late February, while "Mercian Wines Sunnyside Organic Sparkling Rosé Can" design renewal begins in mid-March.
Growing Demand for Canned Wine
In recent years, "meritocratic consumption"—spending on small luxuries for favorite items—has been increasing. This trend has led to more consumers enjoying canned wine in easy-to-drink sizes, and the canned wine market has grown approximately 2.3 times between 2017 and 2025. The "Mercian Wines Sunnyside Organic Sparkling Can" launched in August 2023 is a 280ml small-capacity sparkling wine that is easy to pick up. The product has been performing well as more customers enjoy a sense of "small luxury" and special moments, with 2025 sales up approximately 40% compared to the previous year.

Design Renewal
The design has been renewed to be more vibrant, aiming to become "a gentle organic sparkling wine that envelops you in warm sunlight and bursts with kindness." The new "Mercian Wines Sunnyside Organic Sparkling Red Can" is the third product in the series co-created with Spanish winery "Peninsula," designed to help customers enjoy more moments of "small luxury" and special occasions.
With this launch, the brand aims to provide drinking occasions where customers can easily enjoy a sense of "small luxury" and gorgeous, luxurious moments—not only with friends, acquaintances, and family, but also during solo drinking time.

About Mercian Wines' Sustainable Wine Making
"Mercian Wines" is a wine brand that aims to help more Japanese customers enjoy wine casually and freely by creating wines for Japanese customers in collaboration with excellent wineries around the world. The brand partners with wineries that are committed to sustainability and produce high-quality wines, proposing wines with inspiring deliciousness that make daily life more enjoyable for Japanese customers. The brand also aims for sustainable wine making by collaborating with wineries that challenge and implement four initiatives: "reducing environmental impact," "coexisting with production areas," "reducing burden on people," and "transparency of information," thereby responding to the growing ethical consumption needs.
About Peninsula
A Spanish winery led by Sam Harrop, who holds the Master of Wine (MW) qualification—considered one of the most difficult certifications in the wine industry. The winery has sustainability as a major pillar and was the first in Spain to obtain the new SWfCP certification related to sustainability.
*Note 4: Master of Wine is the most prestigious qualification in the wine industry, certified by the Master of Wine Institute based in the UK. As of November 2022, there are only 415 Masters of Wine worldwide.
*Note 5: Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection. A certification system established by the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) with the purpose of "continuous improvement and sustainability of wineries." It redefines the standards that sustainable wineries should meet from the conventional WfCP certification (Wineries for Climate Protection), adding ESG perspectives and was institutionalized in 2023.
Peninsula's Sustainability Efforts
The winery practices cultivation aimed at reducing pesticides, taking advantage of the natural environment of the Castilla region where the dry climate results in low disease occurrence rates in grapes, making organic farming easier.
About the "Eco-Eco Project"
- A project established by "Peninsula" to promote environmental and community contribution.
- Aims to contribute to environmental conservation by spreading organic cultivation through fair-price transactions of high-quality organic grapes at prices commensurate with their quality.
- Aims to contribute to the local economy by enriching farmers and producers as the trading volume increases when wine quality is recognized in the market.
