Legendary Adventure Game The Portopia Serial Murder Case Reborn as NEXT: THE PORTOPIA SERIAL MURDER CASE in 2027

NEXT: THE PORTOPIA SERIAL MURDER CASE is coming to Nintendo Switch™, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (Steam) in 2027 — a complete new work from G-MODE Corporation (Shinagawa, Tokyo) that adds a substantial new story to a remake of The Portopia Serial Murder Case.

Ahead of the release, the game will make its first playable appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2026 (TGS2026), held at Makuhari Messe from September 17 (Thursday) to 21 (Monday), 2026.

A Full Remake of The Portopia Serial Murder Case, From Original Creator and Chief Director Yuji Horii

The Portopia Serial Murder Case was first released in June 1983 on the PC-6001 by Enix (now Square Enix) and was later ported to many of the personal computers of the era. On November 29, 1985, a Family Computer (Famicom/FC) version was released, becoming the FC's very first adventure game and a landmark title.

NEXT: THE PORTOPIA SERIAL MURDER CASE will be released as a complete new work that adds five new investigation files to the storied original.

Five New Investigation Files Reveal Facts Hidden Behind the Portopia Serial Murder Case

Under the direction of Chief Director Yuji Horii, five investigation files told from different perspectives are added to the story.

Set in 1980s Kobe, new characters join the investigation to uncover the facts hidden behind the Portopia Serial Murder Case.

Music by Shinya Kiyozuka

The in-game music is composed by pianist and composer Shinya Kiyozuka.

He has written more than 30 original tracks for the title, vividly coloring the story that unfolds in Kobe.

Character Design by Kyoji Asano (WIT STUDIO)

Kyoji Asano of WIT STUDIO, who worked as character designer on the TV anime Attack on Titan (Seasons 1–3) and as chief animation director on the TV anime SPY×FAMILY, joins the project as character designer.

Characters who were depicted in pixel art in the Famicom version have been newly redrawn, alongside the creation of new, appealing characters.

Tokyo Game Show 2026 G-mode Exhibition Information

A playable demo featuring the opening part of NEXT: THE PORTOPIA SERIAL MURDER CASE, brought to life with new music and illustrations, will be on display. 配信少女ノ裏垢迷宮 will also be exhibited at the same time.

The demo shown at TGS will not include voice acting. The final product will be fully voiced.
