Pentel Co., Ltd. will launch new neutral colors for the Calme silent-click oil-based ballpoint pen series on January 28, 2026 at stationery retailers nationwide.
Released in December 2021, Calme is an oil-based ballpoint pen series designed with silent clicking mechanisms that blend naturally into surrounding sounds without disrupting the user's concentration. The series has been highly regarded by a wide range of users for its practical silent-click feature, leather-textured long grip, and understated design that fits seamlessly into daily life.
The new lineup has been redesigned with the concept of being an oil-based ballpoint pen that "looks professional yet feels casual to use." The color selection targets a broad audience from Generation Z to Millennials, ranging from their late teens to 40s, with colors that work well in both business and everyday settings while allowing for personal expression.

The new colors were selected to be usable in both business and casual settings while expressing individuality. The lineup includes Dark Green, which looks professional while showing personality; Gray, a neutral color suitable for all generations; and Purple, which combines elegance with vibrancy.
Additionally, the popular Beige barrel from the existing standard lineup joins the multi-function pen series.

Under the new concept of "looks professional yet feels casual to use," the tagline has been updated to "Silent Design with Elegance and Gentleness." This extends beyond the functional aspect of "silent" clicking to encompass all aspects of quiet, serene writing.

By developing different mechanisms optimized for single-color ballpoint pens and multi-color/multi-function ballpoint pens, the operating sound during clicking has been reduced by 66% compared to conventional products (*). The quiet clicking sensation allows use in conference rooms, study rooms, libraries, and other quiet spaces without concern.
The mechanism also softens the impact felt in the hand during clicking, enhancing writing comfort and reducing cognitive burden.

Kazushige Miyake
Born in 1973. Product designer. After graduating from Tama Art University and working at design offices in Japan and abroad, he established miyake design in 2005. His design approach focuses on "manifesting value," and his products span a wide range of fields including smartphones, kitchen appliances, furniture, household goods, bicycles, and traditional crafts. He has received numerous major international design awards and serves as a Good Design Award judge and iF Design Award judge.
