Romance of the Three Kingdoms: King's War Launches in Japan with 500,000 Pre-Registrations

Romance of the Three Kingdoms: King's War, a new MMO strategy simulation game for smartphones developed and operated by Hong Kong Black Beard Game Co., Ltd. (BBGame), officially launched in Japan on April 2. Built around the history of the Three Kingdoms era, the title attracted more than 500,000 pre-registrations before going live.

The game is positioned around three core features: stress-free freeform development, a unique rank system, and immersive 3D graphics. To mark the launch, a special promotional video featuring a prominent historian has been released, a creator support campaign has kicked off, and generous launch bonuses are available for new players.

500,000 Pre-Registrations: Three Standout Systems

The game eliminates complex controls and lengthy development routes in favor of what it calls a "stress-free freeform development strategy," which has been cited as one of the main reasons behind the strong pre-registration numbers.

A unique rank system inspired by ancient social hierarchies is also central to the gameplay. Elements such as resource management, castle construction, diplomacy, and warfare interact differently depending on how ranks are combined, opening up a wide range of strategic options.

Rounding out the core features is the game's 3D graphics engine. High-resolution character models recreate famous scenes and generals from the Three Kingdoms era, while dynamic lighting, shadow effects, and battlefield visuals aim to deliver a sense of immersion in every battle.

Historian Yoshihiro Watanabe Collaborates on Special Video Series

Romance of the Three Kingdoms: King's War has partnered with Yoshihiro Watanabe, a leading Japanese scholar of Three Kingdoms history. Original web commercials and an entertainment program series have been produced as part of the collaboration.

The second installment of the collaborative program was published on the game's official launch day. Drawing on Watanabe's deep expertise, the episode links historical facts with the game's strategic systems, offering viewers both historical context and an introduction to the gameplay.

Alongside the launch, a certified creator recruitment campaign has started. Notably, creators with zero subscribers on their channel are eligible to apply. Those selected as certified creators can earn in-game items and a reward of up to 3 yen per view through a program called "Eraberu Pay" by creating strategy guides, let's play videos, or live streams featuring the game. Reward amounts vary depending on the creator's rank.
