The SATTO (サット) compact sun-and-rain umbrella, which has sold over 70,000 units and topped 100 Rakuten category rankings, has launched its 2026 model. The latest version weighs just 248g and comes with a redesigned full-coverage absorbent storage bag, building on the existing features that address common complaints about folding umbrellas.
Three Common Frustrations With Folding Umbrellas
A national survey by WeatherNews ("Umbrella Survey 2022") found that 72% of people in Japan own a folding umbrella. Despite the widespread ownership, three recurring complaints keep coming up: the umbrellas are difficult to fold neatly, they leave hands and bags wet after use in the rain, and they add noticeable weight to daily carry.
The original SATTO addressed the first complaint with its one-second folding mechanism. The 2026 model goes further by tackling the remaining two.
Patented Shape-Memory Film: Ready in One Second
SATTO's core feature is an internationally patented shape-memory film structure (Patent No. 6930989 / US10743626B2). Closing the umbrella and shaking it two or three times causes the fabric to snap neatly back into place — no manual tucking required. The film is manufactured at a licensed facility, and the shape holds reliably through repeated daily use without deforming.

New: Full-Coverage Absorbent Microfiber Storage Bag
The 2026 model comes with a redesigned 2-way strap storage bag that fully encloses the entire umbrella — including the handle, which previously extended beyond the bag opening. The interior is lined entirely with absorbent microfiber towel material, so a wet umbrella can go straight into a bag without soaking other belongings.
Down to 248g — 52g Lighter Than the Previous Model
The 2026 model weighs approximately 248g, a reduction of 52g from the previous 300g. The weight savings were achieved by reviewing materials and structure at a millimeter level. The result is an umbrella light enough to stay in a bag year-round as both a rain and sun accessory without feeling burdensome.
Complete UV Block and Active Heat Shielding
The canopy achieves a UV blockage rate of 100% and a light-shielding rate of 99.99% or above, while blocking 61% of solar heat energy — resulting in a perceived reduction in head temperature of 32.3°C. These figures are based on quality testing conducted by an accredited testing organization.
Grade 5 Water Repellency: One Shake Clears the Drops
The canopy uses fabric rated at Grade 5 — the highest level — for water repellency. Raindrops bead and roll off the surface without soaking in, and shaking the closed umbrella removes most of the water, avoiding the wet-hands experience typical of folding compact umbrellas in the rain.
