STRIDE LAB, the running and outdoor specialty store operated by Stride Inc. (head office: Chuo City, Tokyo), is renewing its Tokyo flagship store on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. Following the first floor's interior renewal earlier this spring, the second floor -- previously used as an event space -- becomes a permanent outdoor gear floor, with an expanded lineup centered on NEMO tents and sleeping bags. The first floor now focuses on footwear, and the second floor on gear for the mountains. Under its purpose of "making every step healthy," the company is positioning the flagship store as the place where all three of its fields -- WALK, RUN, and HIKE -- come together in one shop.
Why the Renewal: What a Flagship Store Needs to Deliver

STRIDE has built its business around three fields -- WALK, RUN, and HIKE -- spanning everything from everyday walks around town to climbing mountains. The brand has aimed to support every step, from the ground up, for people who walk, run, and climb.
Each STRIDE LAB store, however, weights its lineup differently depending on its location and local demand. Stores in city centers have focused on running and foot health, while stores closer to the outdoors have stocked gear specialized for mountain activities. Now that the chain has grown to 18 stores across Japan, what's expected of the Tokyo flagship store, as the chain's flagship location, is a place where customers can experience all three fields.
The Tokyo flagship store moved to its current location in Nihonbashi-Ningyocho in April 2024, gaining a second floor. However, that floor was mainly used as an event space, and the outdoor gear on offer there was limited. By turning the second floor into a permanent sales floor, the store can now propose everything needed for time spent in the mountains, starting from footwear.
The Store Fixtures: Aluminum Frames and Wood

The renewal also brought new store fixtures, built around custom units that combine aluminum frames with wood. The straight, standardized lines of the aluminum give the space the character of a "lab" that approaches feet scientifically, while wood on the tabletops and counters adds a texture that carries a sense of time spent outdoors. Combining expertise with the experience of the mountains through the same materials reflects the store's approach of offering both under one roof. The fixture system is shared between the first and second floors, so the space feels continuous even as customers move between them.
What Each Floor Offers: From Footwear to Mountain Gear

The new outdoor gear floor on the second level centers on NEMO tents and sleeping bags, alongside backpacks, apparel, cookware, and food items. Trail running gear, which the store has carried previously, is also displayed on this floor. From day hikes to trail running to overnight trips in the mountains, customers can choose the gear they need for time spent outdoors on this floor.
The first floor covers footwear and foot health, with a range from running shoes to everyday barefoot shoes. Staff knowledgeable about foot structure and movement provide counseling tailored to each customer, and foot care products are also available, offered alongside shoe selection as part of day-to-day conditioning.
The building's basement level also houses the foot conditioning studio "STRIDE ReMOV STUDIO," which opened in spring 2026. Choosing shoes, assembling gear, and reviewing how the body moves -- the building now offers a full set of footwear-related services in one place.
