SUPER OPEN STUDIO 2026 will be held in the Sagamihara area on November 14, 15, 21, 22, 23 (Monday, a national holiday), 28 and 29, 2026. The annual event opens the studios where artists create their work to the public, giving visitors a look at production sites that are normally out of sight. Each studio is open from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, admission to each studio is free, and the open days differ from studio to studio.
This year 19 studios take part, with a studio visit bus tour, a studio stamp rally, a map for strolling the town and visiting studios, and videos about the artists, among other programs.
What Is SUPER OPEN STUDIO?
Sagamihara may bring to mind bedroom communities, manufacturing and logistics, but it is also one of Japan's leading art-producing areas with deep ties to art. Several art universities are located in the area, and many artists stay on to create their work in studios converted from warehouses and abandoned factories.
SUPER OPEN STUDIO began in 2013, born from this network of studios. By opening (making public) the artists' studios, the places where they make their work, it is an ongoing initiative in which artists work together with one another and build relationships with the local community.

Highlights of SUPER OPEN STUDIO 2026
Since it began, SUPER OPEN STUDIO (hereafter S.O.S.) has drawn many local residents and art-university students who hope to become artists to the studios every year, where they enjoy exchanges with the artists and a close look at how works are made.
This year 19 studios participate. Besides the customary studio visit bus tour and studio stamp rally, the programs include a map for enjoying a town walk together with a tour of the studios and videos that look at the artists' creative activities and personalities.
It is an annual opportunity to visit places of creation that are usually not open to view and to feel closer to artists and to art. It welcomes both those who already know art well and those who have only just become interested, offering a chance to meet the artists in spaces where creating and daily life overlap.
Participating Studios
A total of 19 studios (104 affiliated artists) take part.
