The Fall, the fantasy film that had gathered cult status as a "legendary masterpiece" following its 2008 Japanese theatrical release — while never making it to streaming platforms — is finally getting its first digital distribution.
Starting June 15, 2026 (Monday), The Fall: 4K Digital Remaster will be available for exclusive rental streaming on U-NEXT.
Directed by Tarsem, the visionary filmmaker behind The Cell, the film took 26 years of conceptualization and 4 years of production to complete. The 4K digital remaster brings the film back to life, with scenes cut from the original theatrical release now restored, delivering a richer and more immersive experience. Shot entirely without CGI across 13 World Heritage Sites and over 24 countries, the breathtaking "real" visuals paint a kaleidoscopic world that leaves a lasting impression.
When the film was re-released theatrically on November 21, 2025 (Friday), it sold out daily from the very first screenings. Opening at just 43 theaters, word of mouth spread enthusiasm and the number of venues expanded to around 100. The film went on to enjoy an exceptionally long theatrical run of 25 consecutive weeks.
Now streaming on U-NEXT for the very first time, the film will be presented in 4K high definition, matching the quality of its theatrical presentation. STORY
It is 1915. Roy, a stuntman left bedridden after falling from a bridge during a film shoot, has fallen into despair. There, he meets Alexandria — a spirited 5-year-old girl recovering from a broken arm she suffered falling from a tree. Unable to move himself, Roy begins spinning an improvised adventure story, hoping to convince Alexandria to steal medication from the dispensary so he can end his own life.
The story he weaves is an epic of love and revenge — six warriors, each having lost a loved one or something precious, who have fallen into deep darkness, joining forces to stand against a great evil.
