About the Series

Mao is the latest work from Rumiko Takahashi, the creator of hit titles including Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, and Rin-ne. The manga has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday (Shogakukan) since 2019.

Set in the Taisho era, the story follows Mao, a young onmyoji, who meets Kiba Nanoka, a girl who has wandered in from the Reiwa era. Together, they unravel a 900-year-old curse in a dark fantasy and time-slip mystery filled with love and hatred.

The TV anime begins its two-cour consecutive broadcast on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 11:45 PM. It is animated by Sunrise, the studio behind the Inuyasha series. (Note: broadcast schedule is subject to change.)
