The Uonuma region is a snow country that continues to preserve traditional lifestyles and wisdom, where people live in harmony with the changing seasons. Uonuma no Sato, operated by Hakkaisan Brewery, is a complex facility born from the desire to offer visitors a sense of "nostalgia and tranquility" through the lifestyle of Uonuma and the culture of snow country. Located in a peaceful satoyama (village forest) at the foot of Mt. Hakkai in the Nagamori area of Minami-Uonuma City, the facility features the Dai-ni Kowa Brewery where Hakkaisan sake is produced, along with cafes, shops, Sarugurayama Beer Brewery, Soba-ya Nagamori restaurant, Satoya confectionery shop, Tsutsumiya Hachizo, and other relaxing spots.
Minami-Uonuma, where Uonuma no Sato is located, is also known for heavy snowfall, with several meters of snow accumulating during winter. The yukimuro (snow storage rooms) were born from the wisdom and ingenuity of snow country people, serving as natural refrigerators. Rice and vegetables stored in yukimuro benefit from nature's power, with their sugar content increasing.
