About This Festival
AnimeJapan is one of the world's largest comprehensive anime events, held annually in March at Tokyo Big Sight. Born in 2014 from the merger of the Tokyo International Anime Fair and Anime Contents Expo, this festival has become the heart of Japanese anime culture, attracting fans from around the world. The large-scale event takes place over four days at Tokyo Big Sight, located in the Tokyo Bay waterfront area of Ariake.
The event's greatest feature is its function as a venue for announcing the latest anime works. Major announcements in the anime industry are concentrated here, including new season reveals for popular anime series, first-time screenings of theatrical anime trailers, and new cast announcements. Four main stages (RED, GREEN, BLUE, WHITE) host approximately 40-50 programs featuring talk shows and live performances by popular voice actors and anime production staff, providing a direct interaction space between fans and creators.
Throughout the venue, approximately 100 booths are set up where anime production companies, publishers, toy manufacturers, and streaming platforms exhibit their latest works and sell limited merchandise. The Production Works Gallery, which introduces the behind-the-scenes of anime creation, changes its theme annually and allows visitors to learn about the production process through materials such as original artwork, background art, and 3D CG resources. In the Cosplayers World, cosplayers from Japan and abroad gather. Official photo sets in collaboration with companies are also prepared, allowing visitors to enjoy commemorative photos while dressed as their favorite characters.
For families, the Family Anime Festa is held concurrently, targeting elementary school children and their guardians. Rich programming including character shows and workshops is available, creating an environment where people of all ages can experience anime culture. The event is divided into Public Days for general visitors and Business Days for industry professionals, also serving as an important venue for business negotiations and international licensing deals.
