Fuji Shibazakura Festival - A Carpet of Colorful Moss Phlox in Full Bloom

Cherry Blossom (sakura / hanami)
Yamanashi / April

About This Event

The Fuji Shibazakura Festival, held every spring at Fuji Motosuko Resort in Yamanashi Prefecture, is one of the Tokyo metropolitan area's largest floral events where approximately 500,000 vibrant moss phlox plants bloom in full glory against the backdrop of Mount Fuji, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Since its inaugural event in 2008, this festival has become a beloved spring tradition, attracting numerous visitors from both Japan and abroad. The venue features seven varieties of moss phlox in pink, white, and purple hues, creating a spectacular landscape that resembles a colorful carpet spread across the earth. Particularly popular is the collaboration between the moss phlox and the "inverted Mt. Fuji" reflection in Ryujin Pond. The view from the observation area, which offers panoramic vistas of both Mount Fuji and the flower fields, continues to captivate countless photography enthusiasts. Within the grounds, visitors can also enjoy strolling through the adjacent Peter Rabbit English Garden, as well as a well-equipped dining area featuring local delicacies such as Fujinomiya yakisoba and Yoshida udon. Limited-edition sweets and souvenirs are also popular. Accessible via a seasonal bus from Kawaguchiko Station, a tourist hub in the Fuji Five Lakes area, this spring flower festival represents one of Japan's most iconic seasonal celebrations and creates unforgettable memories for visitors to Japan.
