About This Event
Sapporo Autumn Fest is Hokkaido's largest food festival that started in 2008. Under the theme of "promoting Hokkaido and Sapporo's food culture and regional revitalization," this event has become one of Sapporo's major events alongside the Sapporo Snow Festival, Lilac Festival, and White Illumination. Held annually for approximately 3 to 4 weeks from early September to early October, it has established itself as a beloved autumn tradition in Sapporo.
The venue spans approximately 1 kilometer from 4-chome to 11-chome in Odori Park, located in the center of Sapporo, featuring over 300 stalls. The venue is divided into multiple themed zones, each offering different attractions and culinary experiences.
Various areas showcase different aspects of Hokkaido's cuisine: areas featuring famous Sapporo restaurant stalls and Hokkaido craft beer, zones offering ramen and local wheat-based delicacies, and areas with diverse gourmet options and stage performances. The Sake & Craft Beer Bar area allows visitors to enjoy Hokkaido wine, sake, and craft beer with pairing appetizers, while municipal specialty booths feature rotating setups by local governments from across Hokkaido, selling limited seafood and sweets.
The festival's appeal lies in offering a "Hokkaido culinary tour" experience within a 1-kilometer radius. Visitors can taste Hokkaido's representative cuisine all at once, from fresh seafood dishes to rich dairy products, authentic ramen, Genghis Khan (grilled lamb), and local sake. Past editions have featured authentic meat dishes using Hokkaido beef, lamb, and game meat, as well as outdoor restaurants with course-style meals prepared by top chefs. Beyond food, the festival offers abundant entertainment including live music performances, DJ events, and various stamp rallies.
Sapporo Autumn Fest is committed to sustainable event management, actively implementing environmentally conscious initiatives such as returnable tableware, waste separation promotion, solar-powered smart composting, and used cooking oil collection.
For international visitors, the excellent accessibility from Odori Station and Susukino Station (5-10 minutes on foot via subway) is a major advantage. Support systems for foreign tourists continue to improve annually, providing valuable opportunities to casually enjoy Japanese food culture.
