◆Lake Biwa – Food & Nightlife

The Lake Biwa area, centered around Japan's largest lake, is a popular destination where visitors can enjoy both nature and history. During the day, the area is lively with lake cruises, leisure activities, and visits to historic temples and shrines, while in the evening it becomes much quieter. In the main cities such as Otsu and Nagahama, you can find clusters of izakayas and bars, making it possible to enjoy bar hopping at two or three venues within walking distance. Around Otsu Station in particular, good access and a local atmosphere make it easy to experience izakaya culture alongside residents. On the other hand, in lakeside resort areas and near tourist facilities, dining options are mostly limited to hotels and restaurants, with fewer izakayas open at night. As a result, these areas are more suited to enjoying a relaxed meal and drinks at a single venue. By choosing the right area for your plans, you can experience the unique nightlife that Lake Biwa has to offer.
