The motif of this meal is the Mandala, which is a prayer for the peace of the guests together with the history and culture of this land. In the same way that Dainichi Nyorai is positioned in the centre of a lotus flower with eight petals at the centre of the Mandala of the Tathagata, surrounded by four tathagatas and four bodhisattvas, the Sasaguri pilgrimage meal set also has a large bowl in the centre with eight smaller dishes around it.
