Koshin Sukita is a Japanese calligrapher and sumi art (bokushō) artist who guides guests through the world of ink expression. Blending traditional calligraphy with contemporary, abstract ink art, she creates custom "Name art" that transforms each guest's name into Japanese characters, performs live calligraphy, and leads participants in creating their own original works. Her experience invites visitors to slow down, settle the mind, and discover the beauty of ink, brush, and empty space.
Japanese calligraphy is far more than the act of writing characters. It is a practice of composing the mind, steadying the breath, and engaging with the beauty of empty space. In this private experience, you will enjoy a special art journey with ink and brush alongside calligrapher and sumi art (bokushō) artist Koshin Sukita.

The experience begins with a custom-made "Name art" piece, prepared especially for you. Your name is interpreted into Japanese kanji and finished as an original work of sumi art — for example, Matthew becomes 真秀 and Romi becomes 旅美. Watching your own name transform into Japanese characters and ink expression makes for a truly special souvenir, unique to your journey in Japan.

Next, watch a live calligraphy performance up close. Through the movement of the brush, the gradations of the ink, and the empty space born on the paper, you will connect with the Japanese sense of beauty. A short meditation follows, helping you quietly settle your mind before moving on to create your very own sumi art piece while guided by the artist.

The artwork you create is yours to take home. Throughout the experience, a professional photographer captures natural moments and keepsake photos, so you leave with not only your finished work but also the memory of your time with Japanese culture. Edited photo data is shared afterward via Google Drive.
To close, enjoy the lingering atmosphere of the experience over green tea and traditional Japanese sweets (wagashi). Bringing together appreciation, creation, meditation, hospitality, and photography, this is a premium Japanese cultural experience designed for small groups.
