Dogo Onsen is considered Japan’s oldest hot spring, with a history spanning approximately 3,000 years. Over its long history, many legends and stories have emerged. For example, the “Botchan Bath” featured in Natsume Soseki’s novel “Botchan” is modeled after the Dogo Onsen Main Building.
This main building was designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 1994, and it continues to attract many tourists. Additionally, Dogo Onsen is associated with the legend of the white heron and the mythology of the gods Ookuninushi-no-Mikoto and Sukunahikona-no-Mikoto, which further enhance the mystique of the hot spring.

- From JR Matsuyama Station: Take the Iyo Railway City Tram Line #5 for about 20 minutes to reach Dogo Onsen Station.
- From Matsuyama Airport: Take the airport limousine bus for about 40 minutes to reach Dogo Onsen Station.
- From Matsuyama Tourist Port: Take the limousine bus for about 40 minutes to reach the destination.
- By Car: From the Matsuyama Interchange on the Matsuyama Expressway, take Route 33 for about 8 km.
