Izakaya Hopping in Akabane: Discover a new way to drink shochu in the Mecca of Bar Hopping

Summary

This time, I went izakaya hopping in Akabane, the mecca for bar hopping, and visited three shops. I enjoyed shochu, a traditional Japanese distilled spirit, and delightful food! ✨

Shochu is one of my favorites that I drink all the time, but I never knew there were so many ways to enjoy it – whether it’s simply with soda, poured over ice cream, or mixed with orange juice. It was also fun discovering the different foods that pair well with shochu!

Shokuraku bikki (食楽びっきぃ)

The first stop is Shokuraku Bikki, a izakaya shop loved by locals. Located about a 3-minute walk from Akabane-Iwabuchi Station.

The shop has cozy atmosphere with several counter seats and a tatami room in the back. There was a wide selection of alcoholic beverages on the menu.

Akanekirishima with soda (Akanekkiri Ball): 550 yen

It had a fruity sweetness and aroma, making it smoother to drink compared to the usual shochu I drink!

Fried chicken wings: 400 yen

This is the specialty of this shop: Chicken wings marinated in soy sauce and garlic for five hours, so the more you chew, the more flavor you feel!

Kimchi gratin: 500 yen

It is the recommendation from the shop owner! The spiciness of the kimchi is mellowed by the cheese and tastes fantastic! It also pairs well with the Akane Kiri Ball.

Located in Akabane, Kita-ku, Tokyo, Shokuraku Bikki is an izakaya especially loved by the locals. It is located about a 3-minute walk from Akabane-Iwabuchi Station and features a homey atmosphere. The shop has a counter with several seats and a tatami room, and offers a wide variety of alcoholic beverages.

Miyazakiya (みやざき屋)

The second stop is Miyazakiya. This izakaya is located about a 3-minute walk from Akabane Station and is famous for its local cuisine of Miyazaki prefecture.

The interior of the shop has the appearance of a high-class ryotei restaurant, with a quiet and mature atmosphere. There is a counter, table seating, and a private room in the back. The lineup of alcoholic beverages, including the famous shochu maker Kirishima Shuzo, is very extensive!

Akanekkiri Ball: 600 yen

Once again, I ordered Akane Kirishima! The clean and gorgeous flavor was incredibly delicious, and I was hooked!

Chilled tomato: 380 yen

The shop staff recommended chilled tomato to pair with Akane Kirishima, so I ordered it! This combination is awesome!

Kurokkiri Ball: 520 yen

Ordered a bottle of Kuro Kirishima. It has a rich, thick, sweet taste. But after drinking it, you will feel refreshed. The aroma is also very strong!

Momoyaki: 600 yen

Miyazaki’s famous specialty, meat cooked with the aroma of charcoal fire. Delicious!

Akakkiri Ball: 550 yen

It is shochu, but it has a mild umami somewhat like wine and a pleasant aroma. Its refreshing taste pairs excellently with food in Izakaya!

Akakiri x vanilla ice cream: 300 yen

A gem of an ice cream topped with Akane Kirishima. The liquor brings out a nice flavor, like rum raisins, and the combination of ice cream and shochu is addictive and delicious!

Miyazakiya is an izakaya in Akabane, Kita-ku, Tokyo, famous for its local Miyazaki cuisine. The interior of the shop has the atmosphere of a high-class ryotei restaurant, with counter and table seating as well as private rooms. It is conveniently located about a 3-minute walk from Akabane Station.

Sumibikushiyaki Suzaku (炭火串焼き すざく)

The third stop is Sumibikushiyaki Suzaku, a stylish izakaya popular for its yakitori. Located in a bustling shopping street, a 4-minute walk from Akabane Station.

Cream cheese with soy sauce: 495 yen

Each cream cheese is full of flavor and delightful! It pairs perfectly with Akane Lemon Balls!

Akane Orange Tonic: 500 yen

This was my first time to try a shochu cocktail and it was also very tasty!
