Ardnahoe Distillery's First Japan-Exclusive Single Cask Release from Islay's Newest Distillery

Japan Import System Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo / President: Katsuhiko Tanaka) has announced the limited release of Ardnahoe's first single cask exclusively for the Japanese market from the Islay distillery.

Established as Islay's 9th distillery, Ardnahoe began distillation in 2018, backed by owner Hunter Laing's decades of bottling expertise and deep respect for Islay's whisky heritage. This release uses spirit from the very early stages of the distillery's journey, making it a special release available only in Japan.

Product Features

This is Ardnahoe Distillery's first single cask release for the Japanese market. The spirit was distilled in April 2019, shortly after the distillery's launch, and matured in a refill bourbon barrel before being bottled at cask strength.

With a peat level of 40 PPM, it delivers the powerful Islay character while maintaining remarkably clean quality for such a young whisky, showing none of the harsh edges or roughness typically associated with short maturation. This single cask expression vividly demonstrates both the unique character and promising future of Ardnahoe.

Each bottle is individually numbered, with only 225 bottles available, making this a truly rare release.

Tasting Notes

Pale golden color. Fresh barley, coastal peat, and dry, rich sweetness reminiscent of beeswax rise up initially, followed by nuances of sea salt and salted caramel. On the palate, gentle sweet spices envelop the mouth, leading to a long, smoky finish.

About Ardnahoe Distillery

Ardnahoe Distillery became Islay's 9th distillery when it was established in 2017 and began full operation in 2019.

"Ardnahoe" means "hill overlooking the hollow" in Gaelic, and true to its name, the distillery is located in a beautiful setting embraced by Islay's majestic natural landscape.

The distillery faces the Sound of Islay, with views of the Jura mountains beyond. This scenery provided the inspiration for the distillery's logo design.

Nearby Loch Ardnahoe, one of Islay's deepest lakes, provides the high-quality soft water used throughout every stage of whisky production.
