Banana Republic and ZANKOV Release Holiday Capsule Collection Celebrating Heritage and Craftsmanship

Banana Republic is launching a limited capsule collection with ZANKOV, a New York-based brand founded by Henry Zankov and known for designs that skillfully combine color, pattern and texture. The 25-piece collection goes on sale on Thursday, October 22, and reflects the craftsmanship and attention to detail shared by the two brands. It proposes a wardrobe with a twist that is meant to be worn for a long time.

Banana Republic x ZANKOV collection

The collection uses premium materials such as brushed cashmere, proprietary wool yarn, fine leather and engineered plaid. Covering menswear, womenswear and accessories, it adopts relaxed silhouettes and universal sizing so that the pieces can be freely mixed and matched. Each item is designed to work as part of a single wardrobe, and by blending conventional menswear and womenswear style codes, the collection allows for gender-neutral styling.

ZANKOV founder Henry Zankov said: "This collaboration with Banana Republic combines the visual language I have developed through design with the brand's rich craftsmanship and heritage. I created the pieces to be playful yet timeless and long-loved. I wanted them to feel beautiful in the hand and make people want to touch them. I also wanted each piece to be something special that is worn for a long time in everyday life and passed on to the next generation."

The collection's signature piece is the "Auden" sweater, which features vivid stripes inspired by vintage sportswear and solid-color brushed cashmere. The focus on brushed cashmere is also seen in "Sasha," a cardigan with navy and pistachio stripes, and "Frankie," a classic long-sleeve polo shirt with malachite green accents on the placket that add a subtle twist. As the collection's feminine pieces, a set of a gray tank top, cardigan and pencil skirt is also offered. These are made from thin, brushed ribbed cashmere and accented with blue wisteria-colored piping.

In designing the collection, Zankov researched Banana Republic's archive and reinterpreted past items for the present day, incorporating elements of his own such as twisted color use and patchwork construction.

The attention to craftsmanship also shows in the "Lucien" Fair Isle jacquard sweater, made with proprietary wool yarn. "Lev" reinterprets a 1950s car coat, using Italian wool produced in Prato, Tuscany, and finished with a leather collar and a voluminous silhouette. The collection also includes accessories such as a reversible brushed cashmere hat, colorful cashmere socks and scarves. Vivid blue accents and multicolor stripes run through the entire assortment, blending ZANKOV's expressiveness and sensibility with Banana Republic's refined, timeless style.

Banana Republic Chief Marketing Officer Meena Anvary said: "From the beginning, we saw an opportunity to reinterpret Banana Republic's brand codes through ZANKOV's approach to color and texture. We brought together the different perspectives of two brands rooted in heritage, craftsmanship and creativity. This collection adds an element of the unexpected to a shared value of high-quality making. It is also designed to be worn for a long time."

To mark the launch, Banana Republic and ZANKOV are running an expressive campaign titled "Future Heirlooms." Through video and visuals, it conveys the inspiration behind the collection, evoking comfort and joy while paying homage to one's own history and memories. Photographs taken by Andrew Jacobs are combined with work by Belgian artist Katrien de Blauwer, created for the project, to express emotion through color. In the campaign video, Zankov himself narrates, talking about the tactile and nostalgic elements that inspired the collection, such as leather softened over a long journey and the feel of cashmere against the skin.

The Banana Republic x ZANKOV collection goes on sale on Thursday, October 22, 2026. It consists of 25 pieces priced from ¥12,000 to ¥80,000 and is sold at the Banana Republic Toranomon store and the official online store.
