Two limited-edition rums from Bielle, one of the leading distilleries on the French overseas island of Marie-Galante, are set to begin shipping to liquor retailers nationwide in Japan on April 10, 2026. Both expressions are crafted from Canne Grise (gray cane) sugarcane and are available only in limited quantities.
The Character of Canne Grise
At the heart of both new releases is Canne Grise, a variety of sugarcane originally from Barbados that was introduced to Marie-Galante in the 1960s. Known for its drought resistance, high sugar content, and herbaceous, rustic character, the variety has found a natural home in the island's climate and terroir.

The two expressions showcase this variety in contrasting styles — one as a fresh blanc rum, and the other as a long-aged, cask-strength release — offering a chance to explore the full range of what Canne Grise brings to the glass.
The Two Products
Bielle Rhum Blanc Canne Grise

This blanc rum is characterized by flavors of citrus and white fruit, with a smooth and supple texture. It captures the varietal character of Canne Grise in a fresh, lively form.
Enjoyed on its own or compared alongside a standard Rhum Blanc, the differences in the Canne Grise variety become apparent.

Bielle Rhum Vieux Canne Grise Brut de Fût 2018

Distilled in 2018 and aged for seven years in ex-bourbon American oak casks, this expression was bottled in 2025 at cask strength (Brut de Fût). The natural richness of Canne Grise, combined with extended aging and full cask strength, results in a concentrated, complex rum with depth, spice, and power.
