Borderlands 4's first Story Pack, "Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned," is set to launch on March 26, 2026 (Thursday). This paid DLC adds a new Vault Hunter named C4SH, along with new areas, missions, activities, enemies, and loot.
Uncover the Secrets of Whispering Glacier
A sinister cosmic force threatens Kairos, and madness drifts through the freezing winds. Players team up with Ellie — Moxxi's daughter and a bold, skilled mechanic — to destroy alien monoliths and challenge the cursed Vault of the Damned. Under the guidance of returning fan-favorite Mancubus Bloodtooth, adventurers will explore Whispering Glacier, an icy expanse littered with the wreckage of ancient starships and dark secrets.
Story Pack 1 also brings back beloved Borderlands characters including Mancubus, Pickle, and Crazy Earl, though no prior experience with the series is required to enjoy the content. Both veteran Vault Hunters and new players are welcome.
The frigid wastes of Whispering Glacier are packed with new story missions, side missions, activities, and items. In the latter half of missions, players can destroy massive pulsating flesh masses to unlock new areas, loot, and puzzles. A new world boss mechanic also sends players to a space where a random boss awaits.
To access Whispering Glacier, players must own Story Pack 1 and complete the mission "Nothing But Thinking" in Fadefield. The content is designed for Vault Hunters at level 13 or above, though players can also start "Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned" directly with a new level 13 Vault Hunter.
Alongside Story Pack 1, a major update will also roll out — one that includes the highly requested feature of sharing progress between characters. Players will be able to share map and activity progress, SDU tokens, Hover-Drives, and customization items with new characters on the same account (note: some fast travel locations will be locked to story progress on new playthroughs). Cross-platform save support is also planned for a future update.

New Vault Hunter: C4SH the Rogue
The first of two additional Vault Hunters coming to Borderlands 4 is C4SH (Cash), a Rogue-class character. C4SH is a casino bot who has been given a new lease on life. After winning a high-stakes card game, he obtained a magical deck imbued with otherworldly power and a tendency toward misfortune — a price too steep for most. But for this robot who has navigated galactic casinos and battlefields by calculating the odds, the deck introduced something entirely unexpected: unpredictability. In other words, it gave him his first taste of humanity. That is why C4SH refuses to play it safe, always betting on himself and embracing maximum risk.

A risk-taking gambler, C4SH can turn the tide no matter how slim the odds. His unique Action Skill, "Card Trick," allows players to draw a random card and unleash powerful magic. Like other Vault Hunters in Borderlands 4, C4SH has three selectable Action Skills and can enhance them with powerful passives and augments across three branching skill trees. A gameplay and character introduction trailer for C4SH is coming soon.
Powerful Enemies and Rare Loot
Throughout Whispering Glacier, Story Pack 1 delivers two major boss fights and 16 mini-boss battles. To reach the bosses, players must fight through Dahl troops who have abandoned their Elpis posts to wreak havoc on Kairos, along with Craggons, Scavs, and other tough enemies.
With great challenge comes great reward. Story Pack 1 offers three new Pearlescent gear items and 11 new Legendary gear items — each including two grenades, heavy weapons, shields, and five Class MODs — enabling even more powerful Vault Hunter builds.
"Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned" also introduces 28 new customization items, including:
- 2 Vault Hunter heads (usable by all Vault Hunters)
- 4 Vault Hunter skins (usable by all Vault Hunters)
- 8 Vault Hunter heads (C4SH exclusive)
- 1 Vault Hunter body (C4SH exclusive)
- 4 weapon skins
- 4 vehicle skins
- 3 ECHO-4 Drone skins and attachments
- 1 ECHO-4 frame

Free and Paid Content Continues to Roll Out
Following the recently launched raid boss "Invincible Bloomreaper," more free end-game content is planned for all Borderlands 4 players.
Outlaw Packs 3, 4, and 5 are also scheduled for release in Q2 through Q3 2026. Each pack includes missions and gameplay that dive deeper into major Kairos characters, along with Vault Cards that reward new customization items and gear. Story Pack 2 is planned for late Q3, bringing a second additional Vault Hunter, multiple main and side missions set in a new area of Kairos, new gear, and plenty of customization items.
