American writing instrument brand CROSS, marking its 180th anniversary this year, is introducing a Japan-exclusive product called "CROSS Closet." Launching in June, this line of ballpoint pen refills brings a fashion-forward concept to everyday writing: choosing a pen refill the way you'd pick an outfit — based on your mood, destination, or personal style.
The idea draws from the notion that pens can be enjoyed the same way fashion is enjoyed. Rather than buying disposable pens, CROSS Closet encourages collecting different designs and swapping refills as the seasons or themes change. This also aligns with an eco-friendly approach to writing tools.
How CROSS Closet Works
Step 1: Choose a pen body from the Bailey Light Cream Soda Ballpoint Pen collection.
Each pen is priced at 4,500 yen (4,950 yen tax included).

The Clear Soda version is particularly recommended, as its transparent barrel makes the inner refill pattern clearly visible. Four colors are available:

Step 2: Choose a CROSS Closet refill (black, medium point) compatible with the Cream Soda Ballpoint Pen body.
Each refill is priced at 1,500 yen (1,650 yen tax included).
CROSS Closet — Debut Theme: "Travel"
Each CROSS Closet release is built around a theme. The first theme is "Travel," and each of the three colors carries a story tied to a specific destination.
Liberty Blue — Product No. 8562-1D-1JP
Inspired by the Statue of Liberty, an iconic symbol of New York City's skyline. The refill is decorated with a pattern featuring the famous landmark.
Vespa Red — Product No. 8562-1D-2JP
A tribute to the scooters from Roman Holiday, depicted cruising through the streets of Rome.
Desert Yellow — Product No. 8562-1D-3JP
Captures the Arizona desert landscape, where cacti stand scattered across the terrain like natural sculptures.
