The Jumangoku Matsuri Festival honors Maeda Toshiharu, the founding lord of the Daishoji domain, and celebrates the area's history as the birthplace of the world-renowned ceramic ware Ko-Kutani, held each year in hopes for the continued growth of local industry.
A variety of stalls line the plaza in front of City Hall and the main street, building the festival atmosphere.
One of the highlights is the "Manto Mikoshi," a lantern-covered portable shrine hoisted on the first night.
Fitted with around 100 lanterns, the mikoshi is paraded around the plaza to energetic chants.
A children's mikoshi and an amateur singing contest round out a lineup with something for visitors of every generation.
On the second night, the "Dai Wa Odori" circle dance brings the festival to its climax.
A fixture of Kaga's autumn calendar, the Jumangoku Matsuri Festival remains a tradition cherished by the local community.
