The Adventure Begins
"Now, where shall we go for our next adventure?"
When Fujiko F. Fujio began work on the Doraemon Movie series, he always thought, "What kind of setting should I have Doraemon and his friends adventure in next?"
Fujiko had drawn adventure stories filled with dreams in various settings: the Cretaceous Period, space, jungles... He had long wanted to create a feature-length story set on the ocean floor, but worried that the oppressive darkness of that world, with its tremendous water pressure, would result in a heavy, dark manga. Then, one flash of inspiration came to him.
To transform such a harsh environment that rejects humans into a world where they could enjoy adventures... what if Doraemon and his friends could shed their "human sensibilities" and acquire the "sensibilities of fish" to swim freely through the ocean? This reverse thinking led to the creation of the secret gadget "Tekiou-tou (Adaptation Light)." The series' fourth installment, "Nobita and the Castle of the Undersea Devil," started from this idea.
This exhibition focuses on the elements that make up Doraemon the Movie: Nobita and the Castle of the Undersea Devil, exploring the appeal of this work alongside the imagination and extensive knowledge that runs through Fujiko F. Fujio's works, depicting a world of dreams and adventure. We hope visitors will experience the world of "Nobita and the Castle of the Undersea Devil" more deeply while enjoying various Fujiko F. Fujio works.

Fujiko F. Fujio continued to draw "manga" that brings smiles to readers' hearts for many years in Tama-ku, Kawasaki City, where he also resided. To convey the "dreams, hope, friendship, courage, great curiosity, and gentle feelings of loving people" that Fujiko F. Fujio envisioned to the present and future, the museum was born in this location on September 3, 2011. There, warm laughter abounds, and children's everyday lives and the "SF—slightly fantastic—" that he adhered to always exist.
