That Man Returns — New Anime EAT-MAN The Over Order Unveils First Teaser Trailer and Visual

EAT-MAN, Akihito Yoshitomi's landmark work in the history of sci-fi manga, is still beloved by fans nearly 30 years after it first began serialization, thanks to its original world and its one-of-a-kind protagonist, Bolt Crank. Now, a brand-new anime titled EAT-MAN The Over Order has been announced, with original creator Akihito Yoshitomi himself handling the screenplay and original character design.

Alongside the announcement, a first teaser trailer offering a glimpse into the world of the new series has been released, along with a newly drawn teaser visual by Yoshitomi.

The staff and cast have also been revealed. Shunji Oga, known for Golgo 13 and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, will direct, while Satoshi Hirayama, known for his work on the Lupin III series, handles character design. Studio Cab is in charge of animation production. Masashi Ebara, who has voiced Bolt Crank in past EAT-MAN anime adaptations, returns to play the character at the center of the story.

A newly reborn EAT-MAN is taking shape. Stay tuned for further updates!

New Teaser Visual, Drawn by Yoshitomi Himself

The teaser visual depicts protagonist Bolt Crank wielding a massive weapon against the backdrop of a sweeping world where ruin and development coexist. Standing tall in his long hair and signature coat, the protagonist commands attention with his presence. Piles of mechanical wreckage at his feet and a skyline of structures stretching into the distance evoke a grand setting where the prosperity and decline of civilization exist side by side. Capturing both Bolt Crank's presence and the scale of this world, the visual raises expectations for the new anime.

First Teaser Trailer Revealed

The teaser trailer offers the first look at newly produced footage. It opens with the message "To everyone who loves the Heisei era—," followed by Bolt Crank picking up a bolt from the wasteland and quietly declaring, "Time to get to work." The trailer then moves through EAT-MAN's signature scene of the protagonist consuming metal, before a massive weapon appears alongside the word "Complete." Condensing the appeal of protagonist Bolt Crank into a short trailer, the footage builds anticipation for the newly launched EAT-MAN The Over Order.

Original Work / Screenplay / Original Character Concept: Akihito Yoshitomi

This marks the third time EAT-MAN has been adapted into anime.

This time, I got to be involved from the screenplay stage, and I wrote pretty much whatever I felt like, improvising as I went.

Unlike working on manga alone, building a story as a group taught me a great deal.

I'd like to try my hand at storyboarding next, so I plan to keep learning.

For now, please enjoy the newly reborn EAT-MAN!!

It's an honor to be part of the EAT-MAN anime adaptation!

We're bringing the original's world into The Over Order's own story, delivering the characters' passionate drama on screen.

The feelings packed into the pauses, the "..." between Bolt's lines — a protagonist who never lets you down — are the key to unlocking the story. Please look forward to the broadcast!

As character designer, I worked to reproduce the delicate touch of the original artwork while organizing the linework so it would be easy for the animators to understand.
