About the Movie "The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe"
"GeGeGe no Kitaro" (1st–6th series) is a national anime that could be called one of Japan's beloved cultural touchstones, cherished for 55 years. In every era, people have been drawn to becoming friends with Kitaro and his companions even while fearing yokai and the uncanny, humming along to the theme song.
In 2023, the movie "The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe" was created as a work commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of original creator Shigeru Mizuki. Released in this anniversary year, the feature-length animated film depicts the secret behind "the birth of Kitaro" — the meeting between the former Medama Oyaji and Mizuki, and the fate the two fathers must confront.
