Felissimo's "Museum-bu" (ミュージアム部) began web sales on October 22 of items created in collaboration with the 78th Annual Exhibition of Shōsō-in Treasures, held at Nara National Museum. The three special items are timed to the exhibition, where numerous precious treasures are shown to the public every autumn.
Inspired by popular treasures, the lineup includes a stole and accessories that bring the radiance of the treasures into fashion items that are easy to wear every day. Their refined look also goes well with any style, and all three are original designs that cannot be found elsewhere.
The items will also be sold at the special shop "Tenpyō" (天平), located near the south exit of Nara National Museum, during the 78th Annual Exhibition of Shōsō-in Treasures, which opens on October 24.
Mandarin Duck Ear Accessories
These beautiful ear accessories take their motif from the mandarin ducks (オシドリ) that adorn a biwa in delicate workmanship. Just putting them on adds a touch of glamour to a simple outfit. The mandarin ducks and flowering plants swaying beside the ears recall the elegant tones played by a Tenpyō-era biwa. As the mandarin duck is a symbol of a "deep bond," the accessories are also recommended as a gift for someone you want to grow closer to.

You can choose either pierced earrings or clip-on earrings. The original paper packaging, inspired by a rosewood wooden box, is also a nice touch.

The motif is the decoration of the 紫檀木画槽琵琶 (No. 2).

Tenpyō Monogram Long Stole
This large stole takes its motif from the beautiful pattern of the fine inlay work (象嵌) engraved on the 紫檀木画槽琵琶 (No. 3). It is finished in Banshu-ori (播州織), known for deep colors and delicate expression. It can be wrapped around the neck or draped over the shoulders, offering ways of wearing that only a large stole allows. Wearing it softly and elegantly while thinking of the beauty of the Tenpyō era, the end point of the Silk Road where Eastern and Western cultures merged, is another way to enjoy it.

The large stole measures about 180 cm in length and about 58 cm in width and is made of soft 100% cotton. It is woven so that the colors reverse between the front and back. Besides serving as a stole to accent an outfit, it also works as a lap blanket when relaxing at home.

The motif is the 紫檀木画槽琵琶 (No. 3).

The stole is made by the Banshu-ori workshop 織馬鹿 (Oribaka).

The Annual Exhibition of Shōsō-in Treasures
The Shōsō-in is a large storehouse (shōsō) in the beautiful azekura-zukuri style, located north-northwest of the Great Buddha Hall of Tōdai-ji in Nara. Inside are about 9,000 treasures, including items associated with Emperor Shōmu and Empress Kōmyō as well as works of art and craft representing the Nara period. Every autumn, the imperial seal on the Shōsō-in is lifted so that the treasures can be inspected, and the Annual Exhibition of Shōsō-in Treasures is held at Nara National Museum to coincide with this. Starting with the first exhibition in 1946, it continues to this day as a special exhibition where visitors can see a wide range of precious treasures.
