About Gintama
Gintama is a television and theatrical anime series based on the popular comic by Hideaki Sorachi, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (published by Shueisha). The series has sold over 73 million copies worldwide (including digital versions).
The TV anime premiered in 2006 and aired for 13 years with breaks in between. The theatrical films include "Gintama: The Movie - A New Translation: The Disturbance of the Benizakura Arc" in 2011, "Gintama: The Final Chapter - Be Forever Yorozuya" in 2013 written by Hideaki Sorachi himself, and "Gintama: The Final" in January 2021, which depicted the conclusion of the original story and became a major hit.
In addition, a new anime adaptation of the spin-off novel "3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei" (author: Tomohito Osaki / original story: Hideaki Sorachi) began airing on TV Tokyo affiliates in October 2025. Even approximately 20 years after its serialization began, the franchise continues to grow through various media adaptations, entertaining and beloved by many fans.
