The 2026 Magical Mirai Starts From the "City of Music," Hamamatsu

Magical Mirai combines a 3DCG concert featuring Hatsune Miku and other virtual singers with an exhibition celebrating the joy of creation. Since 2013, the event has drawn more than 580,000 fans from Japan and abroad.

The 2026 edition holds concerts and an exhibition July 24–26 at Act City Hamamatsu 〈HAMAMATSU〉, August 14–16 at Intex Osaka 〈OSAKA〉, and August 28–30 at Makuhari Messe 〈TOKYO〉. Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, is a first-time host city, known as a "city of music" as home to Yamaha Corporation — developer of the VOCALOID voice synthesis technology that gave rise to Hatsune Miku — along with numerous other globally known instrument makers. Inspired by the music city of Hamamatsu on its expansive lake, this year's event theme is 「湖のソナーレ」. The main visual was created by illustrator 緜, and the theme song 「空に免じて」(https://youtu.be/m8PbMlflLPM) was composed by 傘村トータ.

At the concert, virtual singers Hatsune Miku, 鏡音リン, 鏡音レン, 巡音ルカ, MEIKO, and KAITO will sing and dance to the event's theme song along with a variety of songs created by creators. The grand-prize track from the "Hatsune Miku 'Magical Mirai 2026' Song Contest," chosen from open submissions ahead of the event, will also be performed live on stage. Songs planned for the concert can be previewed now on the "Hatsune Miku 'Magical Mirai 2026' OFFICIAL ALBUM," currently on sale and available to stream.

The exhibition features a wide range of programs, including displays of illustrations and music created by creators, participatory activities for visitors, hands-on workshops, corporate booths, and merchandise sales. Among them, the "KARENT Presents Creators Market" music sales event held within the exhibition lets visitors buy work directly from their favorite music creators.

Each venue's exhibition stage also hosts talk sessions, seminars, and character photo opportunities. At the 〈HAMAMATSU〉 venue, a talk session featuring Crypton staff involved in Hatsune Miku's creation together with Yamaha Corporation staff, as well as a collaboration stage featuring Hamamatsu's mascot characters, are planned. Some stage programs will be livestreamed, so those unable to attend in person are also welcome to watch.

A paid ticket is required for admission to both the concert and the exhibition.

Hamamatsu Collaborations Mark the City's First Time Hosting the Event

To celebrate Hamamatsu hosting Magical Mirai for the first time, the event is collaborating with local businesses and regional specialty products. Ahead of the event, tourism promotion efforts with the city of Hamamatsu are already underway, including collaboration signage in front of Hamamatsu Station, collaboration panels and posters at locations around the city, and distribution of sightseeing maps.

The event is also collaborating with Enshu Railway, a familiar part of daily life for Hamamatsu residents, with a digital stamp rally, train headmark displays, an "Akaden" one-day free ticket, and original merchandise now on sale. In addition, Entetsu Department Store is hosting a pop-up shop, Hamamatsu gyoza — a local specialty — is being sold in collaboration packaging, and the Hamamatsu Station building Mei-One is offering sticker giveaways and dining perks at participating stores, among other tie-in programs. Yamaha Corporation, headquartered in Hamamatsu, is also taking part in several collaborations, including an exhibition at its corporate museum, Innovation Road.

About Hatsune Miku

Hatsune Miku is a singing voice synthesis software planned and developed by Crypton Future Media in 2007 that lets users make it "sing" by inputting lyrics and a melody. Her package character is known for her blue-green twin-tails. Songs made with the software spread widely online, sparking a chain reaction of illustration, singing, and dance creations that grew into a cultural phenomenon.

Today, Hatsune Miku is also active as a "virtual singer" across many fields. In Japan, "Magical Mirai," an event combining live concerts with an exhibition celebrating the joy of creation, has drawn more than 580,000 attendees since 2013, and the 2026 edition is being held across OSAKA, TOKYO, and HAMAMATSU. Overseas, Hatsune Miku's world tour series "HATSUNE MIKU EXPO" has performed 139 shows across 55 cities to date. In 2026, the tour has already completed a North American leg, with a European tour planned for November. Beyond live events, Hatsune Miku continues to appear in a wide range of collaborations, including with traditional performing arts and well-known artists, both in Japan and internationally.

About VOCALOID

VOCALOID, developed by Yamaha Corporation in 2003, is a singing voice synthesis technology — along with the software that applies it — that lets users create the vocal part of a song by inputting lyrics and melody (musical score data). Today, songs made with singing voice synthesis software, including technologies other than VOCALOID, are broadly referred to as "Vocaloid songs," and "VOCALOID" is sometimes used as a genre name within the music scene.

鏡音リン, 鏡音レン, 巡音ルカ, MEIKO, and KAITO are also virtual singers developed by Crypton Future Media.
"VOCALOID" and the shorthand "Vocaloid" are registered trademarks of Yamaha Corporation.
