HOSHINOYA Introduces Three Winter Wellness Stay Plans to Ease Modern-Day Winter Fatigue

Each HOSHINOYA property offers an overwhelming sense of escape built around its own distinctive theme, and from November 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027, HOSHINOYA is offering a "Winter Wellness Stay" program designed to ease the physical and mental strain that modern life tends to bring on during winter. With its harsh cold and shorter daylight hours, winter is, in a way, a season when the human body — much like an animal preparing to hibernate — instinctively wants to store up energy and rest deeply, practicing what could be called "yojo," or the nourishing of life. Drawing on the natural surroundings and local culture of each property, three approaches are offered to reset the "winter fatigue" and "brain fatigue" that modern people tend to experience. These winter-only stay plans include a breakfast that lets guests savor the culture of each region, along with a souvenir gift matched to each property's theme.

Background: The Growing Toll of "Winter Fatigue" and "Brain Fatigue"

In recent years, "winter health struggles" have drawn growing attention as a social issue in the healthcare market. Winter's sharp swings in temperature put a strain on the autonomic nervous system that regulates body temperature, while shorter daylight hours lower levels of the brain chemicals that support emotional stability, leaving people more prone to low moods. The cold also keeps people indoors more, increasing the time spent on smartphones and exposure to information overload — conditions that make winter a season when the brain is prone to chronic "brain fatigue."* In response to this modern-day challenge, HOSHINOYA offers stays designed to reset guests' minds and bodies ahead of spring.

Three Winter Wellness Stays, Chosen to Match Your Type of Fatigue

Proposal 1 — Escape the Cold: Clearing Sunlight-Deficit Stagnation Through Active Refreshment

HOSHINOYA Bali's pool, directly accessible from the guest rooms

HOSHINOYA Okinawa's

Featured properties: HOSHINOYA Okinawa, HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island, HOSHINOYA Bali

Even in winter, the warm southern islands offer an ideal environment for comfortably moving the body and restoring a natural rhythm of sleeping and waking. Guests can move freely in HOSHINOYA Okinawa's heated pool, which feels of a piece with the clear ocean beyond, or in HOSHINOYA Bali's pool — its longest stretch running 70 meters like a river through the heart of the property — before unwinding poolside with a specialty drink. In the evening and morning, activities drawing on each location's environment and culture help circulate fresh energy through the whole body.

Proposal 2 — Onsen: Releasing Autonomic Fatigue From Temperature Swings, Then Unwinding in the Post-Bath Lounge

HOSHINOYA Tokyo's natural hot spring, set on the top floor

A post-bath moment at HOSHINOYA Karuizawa, overlooking the scenery of the hamlet

Featured properties: HOSHINOYA Karuizawa, HOSHINOYA Tokyo, HOSHINOYA Guguan

This proposal makes use of the hot spring, the classic remedy for loosening a body stiffened by winter cold. After relaxing to the fullest in a natural hot spring shaped by the character of each location, guests can enjoy a post-bath moment of calm — at Karuizawa in a lounge overlooking the hamlet, at Tokyo in "Ochanoma Lounge," a semi-public lounge dedicated to each floor, and at Guguan on a sofa in the guest room looking out over Taichung's mountains like a folding screen. A breakfast that turns the region's local flavors into a gentle taste the body welcomes from within rounds out the stay, restoring guests' energy.

Hot spring qualities

HOSHINOYA Karuizawa: Weakly alkaline hypotonic high-temperature spring (drawn directly from the source, uncirculated)

HOSHINOYA Tokyo: Iodide-sodium-chloride strong saline spring

HOSHINOYA Guguan: Weakly alkaline bicarbonate spring

Proposal 3 — Five Senses: Powering Down the "Brain Fatigue" of Information Overload to Awaken the Senses

HOSHINOYA Kyoto's Oku-Arashiyama, filled with the stillness of an ink-wash painting

HOSHINOYA Fuji's

Featured properties: HOSHINOYA Kyoto, HOSHINOYA Fuji

Set amid the rich nature of Kyoto's Oku-Arashiyama and the foothills of Mt. Fuji, these two properties sit in a quiet environment shaped by winter's cold, making them ideal for shutting out the noise of daily life and heightening the senses. Guests are encouraged to set their smartphones aside during the stay: at HOSHINOYA Fuji, a campfire bar lets guests enjoy a drink to the sound of burning firewood, while at HOSHINOYA Kyoto, guests can take part in an activity that introduces the incense culture rooted in the city, along with exercises done while feeling winter's clear air on the skin — all immersing guests in experiences that stimulate the five senses throughout the stay. Stepping away from digital devices guides the brain into a resting state and awakens senses that tend to dull in everyday life.
