IKEA Japan's new outdoor collection, SOLUPPGÅNG, is coming to stores and the IKEA online shop from April 1, 2026. The line draws on two sources of inspiration: the Nordic philosophy of friluftsliv — a deep connection to outdoor living — and the Japanese appreciation of komorebi, the poetic, fleeting beauty of light filtering through leaves. The result is a collection designed to make it a little easier to step outside and enjoy the moment, whether that means a stroll in the park, a day trip to the mountains or seaside, or a backyard cookout with friends and family.
The collection is described as an invitation to "casual adventure" — outdoor enjoyment that requires no special gear or expertise. Kitchen tools and tableware are built to work equally well at the campsite and on the dining table, using durable materials like enamelware, cast iron, and enamel-coated steel alongside natural accents for warmth.
Designer Ola Wihlborg, who worked on many of the kitchen and tableware pieces in the collection, shared his thinking:
"My goal was 'casual adventure' — an easy outdoor experience you can enjoy without special planning or skills. I wanted the knives, forks, barbecue grill, and tableware to feel at home outdoors as well as indoors. Durable materials like cast iron and enamel-coated steel make the products last, while natural details add a warm, tactile feel."
