Funabashiya Offers 4 Wisteria-Colored Sweets for the Kameido Tenjin Wisteria Festival

Coinciding with the Kameido Tenjin Wisteria Festival scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 4, 2026, Funabashiya — the long-established wagashi shop known for its kuzumochi — will be offering four seasonal wisteria-themed products: "Tabearuki Cup Kuzumochi (Fuji)," "Tenjin Fuji Anmitsu," "Fuji no Oshiruko," and a newly introduced "Kuzumochi Lactobacillus Fuji Soda."

About the Kameido Tenjin Wisteria Festival

Wisteria at Kameido Tenjin Shrine

Kameido Tenjin wisteria in bloom

Kameido Tenjin Shrine is widely regarded as Tokyo's premier wisteria viewing spot, drawing large crowds each spring. More than 50 wisteria plants bloom throughout the shrine grounds, and illuminations in the evening allow visitors to enjoy the flowers in both daylight and after dark.

Funabashiya was founded in 1805 (Bunka 2) on the grounds of Kameido Tenjin Shrine, and has been part of this community for over 220 years. During the wisteria festival, a limited-run pop-up store will operate on the shrine grounds, selling kuzumochi, anmitsu, and other traditional sweets.

[New Product] Kuzumochi Lactobacillus Fuji Soda (Main Store Exclusive)

Kuzumochi Lactobacillus Fuji Soda

Fuji Soda layers

A new eat-in drink available exclusively at the main store, designed to capture the colors of wisteria. The layered drink consists of a special peach syrup made from Funabashiya's white honey and peach juice, butterfly pea soda with agar jelly and kuzumochi lactobacillus, topped with a layer of foamy "drinkable kuzumochi lactobacillus." The agar jelly's gentle texture paired with the light carbonation creates a changing mouthfeel as the drink is sipped. The color also transforms as you mix it — the butterfly pea reacts to produce a soft wisteria hue throughout, releasing a peach aroma.
