Jomon Kingdom Harvest Festival in Fujimi, Nagano on October 17 Adds a YouTuber Talk and a Jomon-Style Barter Exchange

The Jomon Kingdom Harvest Festival will take place at Idojiri Historic Site Park (井戸尻史跡公園) in Fujimi Town, Nagano Prefecture, on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The annual event is organized by the festival's executive committee, with the Idojiri Archaeological Museum serving as its secretariat.

This year, 縄さん, the YouTuber behind "Primitive Japan (Weekend Jomon-Men)," and the director of the Idojiri Archaeological Museum will hold the first "Jomon Power Talk" (縄文力トーク). The day also includes the "Kuku dance" (くく舞), which is based on the patterns on Jomon pottery, a harvest ritual, and a barter exchange among visitors, giving people a hands-on way to experience the autumn harvest and Jomon culture.

Reliving a Jomon-Period Festival and Celebrating the Autumn Harvest

The Jomon Kingdom Harvest Festival celebrates the autumn harvest with Jomon culture and local heritage as its themes. Its highlight is a re-creation of the world of a Jomon-period festival, based on the research of the Idojiri Archaeological Museum and the patterns on Jomon pottery. Visitors can enjoy Jomon culture through sound, dance, food, and crafts, including a ritual giving thanks to the gods for the harvest and the "Kuku dance," which was created from the patterns drawn on pottery.

New This Year: "Jomon Power Talk" With the YouTuber 縄さん and the Museum Director

As a new feature this year, 縄さん of the YouTuber channel "Primitive Japan (Weekend Jomon-Men)" will hold a conversation with Director Komatsu (小松隆史) of the Idojiri Archaeological Museum. The talk looks at how Jomon people obtained materials, bartered, and made use of nature's bounty, from an accessible point of view. It is meant for people who already know Jomon culture well as well as those who have had little contact with it.

A Jomon-Style Barter Exchange of Harvests and Stories Without Money

A barter exchange among visitors is another feature of the event. Participants introduce items they harvested in their own region, local specialties, or handmade pottery together with the stories behind them, and swap them for items that someone else has brought. Based on a spirit of sharing rather than monetary value, the exchange connects people with people and regions with regions. Last year, seasonal harvests such as persimmons and pumpkins, handmade pottery, and clay figure (dogu) objects were brought in, and many exchanges took place.

On the same day, a Jomon-themed event called the "Fujimi Jomon Halloween Hokoten Matsuri" (ふじみ縄文ハロウィン ホコ天祭り) will be held at the shopping street in front of Fujimi Station. It is organized and operated separately from the Jomon Kingdom Harvest Festival. A circular shuttle service connecting the two venues is also planned.
