Margaret Howell and Mackintosh Collaboration Collection of Coats and Blousons Goes on Sale October 7

Margaret Howell has created a collaboration collection with Mackintosh, which has made practical coats suited to Britain's climate and daily life since its founding in 1823.

The relationship between the two brands spans about 40 years, and this collection carries on that craftsmanship.

The waterproofness that symbolizes the brand's history is expressed with RAINTEC®, a modern material. The coats and blousons are waterproof and windproof, with a soft, lightweight feel, and they are modernized from Margaret Howell's perspective.

"British tradition, quality and sound craftsmanship. I take great pleasure in bringing them together and shaping them into clothes that can be worn in everyday life. From that accumulation, truly good design comes from a style that has been thought through carefully."

The collection is based on "HUMBIE," a signature style of MACKINTOSH, the "HORSE RIDING" coat for horseback riding, and "JOHNSTONE BRIDGE," which has a vintage worker parka as its roots. Each is arranged with MARGARET HOWELL's relaxed fit and minimal design. While keeping authentic details and functionality, the pieces are finished as coats and blousons that fit into modern daily life.

The collection goes on sale on Wednesday, October 7, at MARGARET HOWELL directly operated stores and the mix.tokyo official online shop.

Collection

Based on Humbie Short

Women's MACKINTOSH RAINTEC COTTON BLOUSON in navy and olive

Women: MACKINTOSH RAINTEC COTTON BLOUSON, color: Navy / Olive, ¥176,000

Men's MACKINTOSH RAINTEC COTTON COAT in navy and olive

Men: MACKINTOSH RAINTEC COTTON COAT, color: Navy / Olive, ¥165,000

These pieces rearrange "Humbie Short," one of Mackintosh's popular styles, into a cleaner silhouette.

  • Men: A relaxed fit typical of the brand, with a back yoke detail that provides ventilation added. Although it has a modern look, authentic details also stand out, such as flap pockets reinforced with rivets and a removable chin tab.
  • Women: The men's style is adapted to a women's fit. Neat details such as large flap pockets, sleeve tabs and a collar with edge stitching are the key points.

Based on Horse Riding

Women's MACKINTOSH RAINTEC COTTON COAT in fawn

Women: MACKINTOSH RAINTEC COTTON COAT, color: Fawn, ¥209,000

Women's MACKINTOSH RAINTEC COTTON COAT in black

Women: MACKINTOSH RAINTEC COTTON COAT, color: Black, ¥209,000

These coats are based on Mackintosh's "Horse Riding" and updated for town use.

The belt used for fixing the coat while riding and the rubber tape on the hem that makes it easier to wipe off mud are left out, resulting in a clean design. The safety loop detail is placed on the outside, expressed minimally in the brand's way.

Based on Johnstone Bridge

Men's MACKINTOSH RAINTEC COTTON COAT in dark brown

Men: MACKINTOSH RAINTEC COTTON COAT, color: Dark Brown, ¥198,000

Men's MACKINTOSH RAINTEC COTTON COAT in black

Men: MACKINTOSH RAINTEC COTTON COAT, color: Black, ¥198,000

These coats are based on Mackintosh's "Johnstone Bridge," a modern update of a vintage worker field parka for cold regions.

The distinctive hood design is kept, while the conventional pocket details are stripped away and the coat is arranged in the brand's style. Partial black corduroy fabric serves as an accent.
