A whisky featuring a label from the manga series Monkey Turn (by Katsutoshi Kawai) is available for lottery sale through WHISKY MEW. The release marks the 30th anniversary of the series' serialization debut.
About Monkey Turn
Monkey Turn first appeared in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1996 and ran for eight and a half years. The story follows Kenji Hatano, a young man determined to reach the top of the boat racing world — a sport known for its intense, combative nature on the water. The manga spawned a TV anime adaptation and pachinko machines, and has remained popular with fans to this day. Its influence on the real sport of boat racing has been notable, with some professional racers citing it as the reason they entered the field.
The Whisky: Royal Brackla 2011
Whisky critic and journalist Hideo Yamaoka selected the Royal Brackla 2011 for this release. Royal Brackla is one of only two distilleries permitted to carry the "Royal" designation. Granted a Royal Warrant in the 19th century, the distillery has long been known as "The King's Own Whisky." The expression is also recognized as a key malt in the globally popular Dewar's blend.
This Royal Brackla 2011 presents aromas of pear tart, orange flesh and zest, and grape juice — elegantly fruity throughout. The palate is sweet, fruity, and malty, with a lingering finish that develops into a pleasing spiciness. The influence of Tawny Port casks gives the whisky an exceptional balance. It is recommended to enjoy neat.
