The 45th Omiya Takigi-Noh to Be Held at Hikawa Shrine on May 22 & 23, 2026

The Omiya Takigi-Noh, a traditional performing arts event that has been held annually in May on the grounds of Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine, celebrates its 45th anniversary in 2026. In addition to Noh performances by the Hosho and Konparu schools, Kyogen by the Izumi school will be presented on both evenings, with celebrated Kyogen performers Nomura Mansaku and Nomura Mansai taking the stage.

As dusk falls in early summer and bonfires are lit throughout the shrine precincts, the entire setting becomes a world of ethereal beauty — a fitting backdrop for one of Japan's finest outdoor Noh events.

About the Omiya Takigi-Noh

The Omiya Takigi-Noh was first held in May 1982 to commemorate the opening of the Tohoku and Joetsu Shinkansen lines, with the aim of promoting local culture and creating new forms of tourism. Since then, it has grown into one of Japan's most acclaimed outdoor Noh events, drawing praise for the magnificent natural setting of Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine.
