Swedish Bag Brand Sandqvist Launches in Japan with a Pop-Up Event in Nihonbashi

SANDQVIST TOKYO

Sandqvist, a bag brand founded in Stockholm, Sweden, has begun its full-scale expansion into Japan in 2026. To mark the occasion, the brand is hosting "SANDQVIST TOKYO" — a launch party and pop-up store — at THE A.I.R BUILDING in Nihonbashi, Tokyo.

The event runs for two days on April 28 (Tuesday) and April 29 (Wednesday, a national holiday), with the entire venue transformed to reflect the Sandqvist world and showcase its latest collection.

Brand Story: Bags That Bridge City and Nature

Swedish landscape

Sandqvist was founded in 2004 by three childhood friends — Anton, Daniel, and Sebastian. Their goal was to create a bag that felt equally at home in an urban office and on a weekend walk through the forest. Starting out making bags in a garage, that founding spirit continues to define the brand today.

The design philosophy centers on "Scandinavian clarity" — functional yet simple and minimal, shaped by the natural landscapes of Northern Europe.

Committed to durability and timeless design, the brand actively incorporates sustainable materials, including 100% recycled nylon in its GRID series, organic cotton, and recycled polyester derived from plastic bottles.

THE A.I.R BUILDING 4F Artist In Residence

The venue is THE A.I.R BUILDING (Artist In Residence) in Nihonbashi — a concept building inspired by the story of 'Gilles', a New York-born jazz musician said to have taken up residence there in the 1970s. The building is designed around the idea of artists "hacking" the entire space, with each floor offering a distinct environment for creative expression.

Sandqvist will take over THE A.I.R BUILDING for the two days, filling the space with its items and brand world. On the first day, a DJ will provide live music throughout the evening. Co-founder Daniel Sandqvist will also be on-site at both events to speak about the brand.

Bags displayed at the event will be available to purchase at special event pricing.
