STATE OF ESCAPE, an Australian handmade bag brand, is opening its world's first directly-operated store at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya (1-1-2 Yurakucho, Chiyoda-ku) on Saturday, June 6, 2026. Having expanded mainly through an online store and pop-up shops, this flagship store will offer the full brand lineup for the first time.
STATE OF ESCAPE was born in Australia with the concept of "creating unique, edgy, and beautiful carry-alls." The brand combines neoprene — a material that is remarkably soft yet highly durable — with sailing rope, producing lightweight and flexible bags that can also be hand-washed. In recent years, the brand has also garnered attention for its sustainable efforts, including collections made from recycled materials.
The store interior features soft natural light and a contrast between natural and artificial materials, creating a quiet and fulfilling space. A minimal curved design connects the entire space gently, inviting visitors into the brand's world. On opening day, designers Brigitte MacGowan and Deslee Maidment will be visiting Japan to celebrate this special occasion.
Hibiya Exclusive Color from the Meridian Collection
To mark the grand opening, a Hibiya store-exclusive color — Hazelnut/Cream — is being introduced from the Meridian Collection. This collection uses recycled polyester, combining light weight with high strength and durability, and is designed for easy everyday use as it is both foldable and hand-washable. Pre-orders for this limited color will be accepted in-store at the grand opening.

Customers who order a dual-tone Meridian Collection piece will receive a complimentary original T-shirt. Additionally, those who spend ¥50,000 or more (tax included) will receive an embroidered key tag upcycled from leftover sailing rope used in the bags. Please note that both gifts are available while supplies last.
About STATE OF ESCAPE
STATE OF ESCAPE was started in Sydney, Australia by Brigitte MacGowan and Deslee Maidment, with the concept of "creating unique, edgy, and beautiful carry-alls."
The two discovered neoprene — a material that is remarkably soft yet highly durable — and were captivated by its potential. Through trial and error, they developed the brand's signature neoprene bag, "Escape," which incorporates sailing rope into its structure to achieve a bag that is lightweight and flexible while offering both functionality and design.
All collections balance the practicality of being foldable and washable with a natural beauty that fits seamlessly into everyday life. Simple and refined designs that remain timeless are a core value carried throughout the brand. In 2024, STATE OF ESCAPE obtained B Corp certification and has been expanding collections using recycled polyester, reflecting a commitment to responsible production with consideration for the environment and society.
