teamLab's "Sketch Umwelt" Exhibition Coming to Museum of Aeronautical Sciences

A limited-time exhibition featuring teamLab's interactive digital artwork is coming to the Museum of Aeronautical Sciences in Chiba Prefecture. The exhibition, titled "teamLab Sketch Umwelt," is scheduled to run from March 20 to April 19, 2026.

The featured work, Sketch Umwelt, lets visitors draw airplanes or dolphins on paper and watch them appear as three-dimensional figures in the exhibition space. Visitors can then use their smartphones to pilot their own creations, experiencing the world from each creature's unique perspective. The work explores the concept of "Umwelt" — the idea that each living creature perceives and constructs its world differently based on its own senses.

The exhibition is part of the SORATO NRT Airport City concept, an initiative launched by Narita International Airport Corporation and Chiba Prefecture in April 2025. The concept aims to foster the integrated development of Narita Airport and its surrounding region, and the exhibition is intended to generate interest in the aviation industry and the local area.

About SORATO NRT Airport City

In April 2025, Chiba Prefecture and Narita International Airport Corporation (NAA) launched the NRT Area Design Center (NADC) and established the SORATO NRT Airport City concept — a vision for the integrated development of the airport and its surrounding region. The initiative aims to harness global growth to revitalize Japan's economy and support sustainable regional development.

Sky Oval is the symbol of SORATO NRT, inspired by the oval shape of an airplane window. The view through the window at takeoff represents a gateway to unknown worlds and new futures. The oval shape also evokes the moment life breaks free from its shell — reflecting SORATO NRT's vision of nurturing the industries and people of tomorrow.
