Fujiki Uso and Itami Sayo Plan "Homeland and Garden"
Tokushima Castle Museum is located next to the former Tokushima Castle outer garden, and from inside the museum, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of the garden. This exhibition is designed to allow visitors to appreciate the historical depth and beautiful scenery of this location while enjoying works by contemporary young artists.
Last year's exhibition, "Itami Sayo: My Friends," centered on Sayo Itami from Tokushima Prefecture and featured paintings by artists from across Japan. What was particularly impressive about this exhibition was that several participating artists depicted the landscapes and daily life of their hometowns or the places where they currently live.
The participating artists in this exhibition are emerging artists in their 20s and 30s. This is a valuable opportunity to see works by artists who have gained popularity on social media and the internet while still adhering to hand-drawn paintings and illustrations, all gathered in Tokushima Prefecture.
For this exhibition, the theme "Homeland and Garden" was communicated to the participating artists in advance. As a result, "landscapes" from across Japan, or imagined by the artists themselves as their "homeland," are brought together at Tokushima Castle Museum. These "landscapes" may also be imaginary. While viewing both the majestic real landscape and the depicted virtual landscapes, the exhibition hopes to provide a relaxing space to contemplate what "homeland" means to us living in the present.
