A new limited-edition item, the "Croissant Taiyaki Purin," is joining the Tsukiji Gindaco (築地銀だこ) lineup from Monday, June 8, 2026, at taiyaki-handling stores nationwide (some exceptions apply).
Rich Custard and Caramel, Wrapped in Crispy Croissant Dough
The "Croissant Taiyaki Purin" was previously sold at the taiyaki specialty shop "Gin no An," where its combination of rich custard and caramel earned strong customer response — with many praising the "perfect pairing of rich custard and caramel." Following that reception, the item will now be available at Tsukiji Gindaco's taiyaki-handling stores across Japan.

Pudding has long been one of Japan's most beloved sweets enjoyed across all age groups, and this product brings that familiar flavor to the taiyaki format. Development involved over two years of refinement to achieve what the team calls "the melt-in-your-mouth texture and bittersweet caramel quality of classic pudding" — all within the constraints of a taiyaki shape.
The filling combines vanilla bean-scented custard cream, made with fresh eggs and milk, with a caramel sauce developed specifically for taiyaki. The specially developed croissant dough is topped with coarse zarame sugar on one side, then baked at high heat from both sides simultaneously — producing a crispy, fragrant exterior that encases a creamy, rich pudding filling inside.

It took two full years of trial and error to achieve both "the melt-in-your-mouth texture" and "the bittersweet caramel quality" unique to pudding within the limited shape of a taiyaki. "Croissant Taiyaki" is an original product first developed and launched at the taiyaki specialty shop "Gin no An." It features a special 24-layer dough wrapping housemade filling, baked simultaneously from both sides using dedicated equipment — producing a distinctive crispy texture. The rich aroma and flavor of the filling fill the mouth with the first bite. Letting it cool slightly after purchase is said to enhance the unique character of the dough.
