Vixen Launches Renewed "MetalHolder" Series — 11 High-Magnification Loupes Available from May 14

Vixen Co., Ltd., a comprehensive optical equipment manufacturer headquartered in Tokorozawa, Saitama, is set to release all 11 models in its renewed "MetalHolder" series starting Thursday, May 14.

Background and Features of the Renewal

The MetalHolder series is a line of high-magnification loupes used in a wide range of settings — from professional environments like gemstone appraisal and print inspection, to casual nature observation. The renewal retains the optical performance of the previous models while updating the design for greater practicality and a more modern feel.

Fingerprint-Resistant "Shiro Nashiji" Finish

The original glossy metallic finish has been replaced with a calm, matte "shiro nashiji" (white pear-skin) coating that makes fingerprints and smudges far less visible.

Engraved Logo That Won't Fade

The former red printed logo has been replaced with a dark gray engraved marking. Magnification and other specifications remain legible even after years of heavy professional use.

Four Categories for Every Purpose (11 Models in Total)

The series is organized into four categories to help users find the right loupe for their needs:

  1. Standard Models (4 models)
  2. High-Precision Models (3 models)
  3. Shiami / Linen Testers (3 models)
  4. Eye Loupes (1 model)

1. Standard Models — Suited for Nature Observation and Smartphone Photography

A lineup built for everyday use, including plant and mineral observation, and simple macro photography with a smartphone.

MetalHolder DL20

MetalHolder DL20

The most popular model in the MetalHolder series. Its 20mm wide aperture delivers distortion-free 10x magnification, making it easy to keep subjects in view — ideal for moss observation and quick smartphone macro shots.

MetalHolder DL23

MetalHolder DL23

Despite having the largest lens diameter in the series at 23mm, its resin body keeps the weight down to just 14g. Three lenses combine to offer three magnification levels: 3.5x, 6x, and 8.6x.

MetalHolder DL12

MetalHolder DL12

A 10x loupe built with two glass lenses for a sharp, clear view. Suitable for both observation and smartphone photography, so you won't miss a moment.

MetalHolder DL12-7

MetalHolder DL12-7

Offers two magnification options — a standard 10x and a close-up 20x — to suit different purposes.

2. High-Precision Models — Built for Professional Appraisal and Inspection

A professional lineup for those who require superior clarity, such as gemstone appraisers and circuit board inspectors.

MetalHolder DL17

MetalHolder DL17

Features a three-element achromat lens that minimizes chromatic aberration (color fringing) and distortion to the highest degree. A trusted tool for professionals who need precision and clarity.

MetalHolder DL14

MetalHolder DL14

A 20x high-magnification loupe that overcomes the typical dimness of high-power loupes thanks to an achromat lens and magenta anti-reflection coating, delivering a bright and sharp image.

MetalHolder DL19

MetalHolder DL19

By combining lenses, seven magnification levels are available: 3x, 4x, 5x, 6.5x, 9x, 11x, and 15x. Useful across a wide range of applications, from checking halftone dots in print to observing minerals and plants.

3. Shiami (Linen Testers) — Specialized for Fabric and Print Inspection

Also known as "linen tester loupes," these originated as a tool for counting the weave of textiles. They fold flat, focus when placed directly on a surface, and include a built-in scale for measuring.

MetalHolder Shiami DS20

MetalHolder Shiami DS20

The smallest model in the Shiami series, carrying on the refined form of the classic linen tester loupe.

MetalHolder Shiami DS25

MetalHolder Shiami DS25

Uses a two-lens configuration for distortion-free optics and features a "full black body" interior to prevent stray light reflections. The high-contrast view supports precise professional inspection.

MetalHolder Shiami DS28

MetalHolder Shiami DS28

Based on the standard DS20, but with an enlarged 28mm lens diameter and a user-friendly 6x magnification. The wider field of view lets users grasp the overall picture quickly, making it ideal for extended inspection sessions.

4. Eye Loupe — Hands-Free for Detailed Work

A monocular loupe that fits around the eye, keeping both hands free for delicate tasks like watch repair, precision work, nail art, and model building.

MetalHolder Eye Loupe DL22

MetalHolder Eye Loupe DL22

An ultra-lightweight 8g model worn around the eye. It leaves the workspace clear and comfortable for extended use.
