Question

I'm planning a trip to Japan. I already have the major sightseeing spots on my list, but I'd love to experience something a bit more unique. What's one travel experience in Japan that really left an impression on you?

For me, it's definitely Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture! 🌊
There are so many beautiful hotels and restaurants where you can relax while enjoying a view of the sea. Every place feels calm and thoughtfully designed. The island also has many charming shops, especially ones that carry handmade pottery and lifestyle goods.
My favorites are Awabi Ware and Kozorasou.

Awabi Ware — Founded by potter Junichi Okamoto who returned to his hometown on Awaji, the brand uses locally sourced clay to produce tableware that reflects the natural beauty of the island. The style blends simplicity with a sense of warmth, making the pieces feel both modern and timeless.

Kozorasou — A cozy spot that combines a café, a lifestyle shop, and accommodation. With its forest-like atmosphere, it's the perfect place to slow down and relax. 🌳

It's the kind of trip that feels truly special; I'd love to go back again soon! Whether you're traveling with a partner, friends, or even solo, I think you'll really enjoy it.
You can explore Awaji Island in about two days, and afterward I also recommend extending your journey towards Shikoku for more hidden gems. ☝️
